§ 10-1. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this chapter, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Animal shelter means any premises designated by action of the city for the purpose of impounding and caring for animals found running at large in violation of this article.

    At large means off the property of the owner and not under control of a competent person.

    Chicken means any female chick or hen of any breed of domestic chickens of the subspecies gallus gallus domesticus.

    Chicken coop means an enclosed and roofed accessory structure built to shelter chickens from the elements and from predators.

    Chicken run means an area that is securely fenced to allow a chicken to exercise by accessing an area protected from predators and is typically attached to a chicken coop.

    Enforcement authority means the city police department, or such other persons as are designated by the mayor or designee to enforce the provisions of this article.

    Exposed to rabies means bitten by or having been in direct contact with any animal known to have been infected with rabies.

    Kennel means the commercial business of breeding, buying, selling or boarding dogs.

    Owner means any person owning, keeping or harboring an animal.

    Restraint means controlled by a leash, under control of a competent person, (that is, within the sight and voice range of such person and obedient to that person's command), on or within a vehicle being driven or parked on the streets or within the property limits of its owner or keeper or unless on property other than that of its owner with the express or implied consent of the owner of such property.

    Rooster means any male chick or chicken.

    Spayed female means any bitch which has been operated upon for removal of ovaries or otherwise to prevent conception and "heat" manifestations.
