§ 12.2. Commission.

  • (a)

    Establishment and composition. The council shall appoint a planning-zoning commission which shall be composed of not less than five (5) nor more than seven (7) qualified voters of the city. Elected officeholders of any of the jurisdictions involved may serve only in an ex officio capacity, except in the event that a quorum cannot be obtained at a planning-zoning commission meeting, in which case a councilmember as designated by the city council may serve as an alternate planning-zoning commission member in place of an absent regular member in order to make a quorum.

    (b)

    Terms of office; removal from office; vacancies. Members of the commission shall be appointed for staggered terms of three (3) years and shall serve until their successors are appointed. Original appointments may be made for a lesser number of years so that the terms of the said members shall be staggered. The governing body creating the commission is authorized to remove any member of the commission for cause after written notice and public hearing. Any vacancy occurring during the unexpired term of office of any member shall be filled by the governing body for the remainder of the term. Such vacancy shall be filled within thirty (30) days after the vacancy occurs.

    (c)

    The commission shall meet at least one (1) time in each month for the conduct of official business.
